Team Baseball

Compete - Grow - Repeat!

Competition is opportunity for development - it is where you reap the benefits of your hard work, where you realize your goals, where you grow and learn from defeat not just wins, where you push your limits and learn about yourself, where you set new goals and raise the standard, it is where focus + hustle = fun!

Tournament Play - Policies - Sponsors

Pirate Travel Ball involves practicing & scrimmaging two to three times per week and playing in games on the weekends throughout one or more seasons in a year - Spring/Summer & Fall Ball. The majority of tournaments will be within an 1 hour drive of Charleston, SC - such as Walterboro, Summerville, North Charleston, Mt. Pleasant. When we do travel 'Out of Town', it will rarely require anything further than Columbia, Savannah, or Myrtle Beach.

Excluding scrimmages and the occasional Friday night, or 3-day weekend, game, virtually all travel baseball games are played in a tournament format and on weekends. Pirate Baseball will play 8 tournaments in the Spring/Summer Season and 6 during Fall Ball - locations TBD & dates are subject to change.

We will mostly play USSSA Tournaments in 2024 with the exception of any Shipyard tournament, they do their own thing. You can learn all you need to know about “Travel Ball”, tournaments, and the many organizations online- so, here’s what it means for Pirate Baseball.

There is no singular governing organization in travel baseball. Rather, there are several organizations and facilities that host tournaments with varying criteria. Some of the dominating travel baseball organizations include Triple Crown Sports, Perfect Game, Untied States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA), and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).

No ‘Guest’ Players

Back Up Player Policy

We don’t believe kids who work hard each week at practice with their team should be replaced by guest players for the sake of a competitive advantage and chalking up Ws- hence, No Guest Player Policy

However, within reason, we will maintain a select list of ‘Back Up’ players to ensure we can always show up when we are scheduled to compete in tournaments.

Back Up players will be used when roster players are unavailable due to health reasons or family emergencies - the only two reasons a player should ever miss a scheduled tournament game.

Walk Up Songs & Music

Policy = Requires a consistent music coordinator volunteer per roster.

We’re cool with kids having appropriate 20 second walk up songs and music at warm ups and in between innings at an appropriate decibel level… that’s it.

Have Fun!

Dugouts are All Business

Policy = NO PARENTS. Focus. Hustle. Have Fun.

Players are required to focus on the job at hand, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and take pride in their professional appearance at all times -look good, feel good, play good- while representing JIBC values and Pirate codes of conduct.

Travel Sponsors

No Fundraising Policy

We elect to organize and fund our own players development - we pay for our kids to play baseball - we do not ask players to fundraise.

We do accept and appreciate sponsors who can help us offset expenses for the team and reduce the cost per player.

Whenever sponsored, we will use available funds to pay a portion of tournament fees and practice field rentals.

Our Travel Ball Goal is to teach ‘real’ baseball so our players are ready to play 90-foot baseball when the time comes - not take advantage of developing children’s shortcomings to score runs and win “$5 Rings” on 45’ bases- we will always take the high road and keep things in perspective when competing. Our intention is to develop players in the long-term, but we also want to compete every time we cross the line.

We want your kids to win when they’ve earned it, but most importantly we want them to play good baseball while learning healthy competitiveness and sportsmanship as part of their long-term development. But never forget, our coaches are competitors who are emotionally invested in your children’s well-being, and LOVE the game of baseball… so we may get fired up here and there - but we promise to keep it professional, positive, and productive for the players at all times when training and competing.

Pirate Baseball Teams will have a Manager, a Bench Coach, and a maximum of 1-2 Assistant Coaches. Please review our coaching page to learn more about our staff requirements, credentials, and organizational structure. Be sure you check out our Development page as well to best understand our approach to coaching players, including Travel Ball, and how everything we do will align with USA Baseball’s Long-Term Athletic Development Model and JIBC’s Approach, Philosophies, and 3 Rules.

JIBC is a BASE certified organization with Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies and protections in place to help keep kids safe. Our Coaches go through back ground checks, and sign codes of conducts with USA Baseball.

Everyone- Coaches, Players, Legal Guardians - must agree to and sign the JIBC Codes of Conduct and Pirate Team Contract in order to be a part of Pirate Baseball.
